Cauvery Water: Ray of hope for delta farmers

Farmers in the delta districts are hopeful of a positive resolution, in time for them to sow the samba.

“The Supreme court has always shown optimistic attitude towards the farmers of Tamil Nadu and Friday’s observation has instilled a hope among us that we could recover ourselves from the present dilemma”, PR Pandian, Coordinator of the Tamil Nadu All Farmers’ Federations told DTNext , adding that water was full from the month of July. Meanwhile, Swamimalai S Vimalnathan, Secretary of Cauvery farmers Protection Association recalled the events of 2004 when SM Krishna was the Chief Minister of Karnataka. The state was ordered to release 1.10 TMC water per day to Tamil Nadu but it was dishonoured due to severe protests and agitations in Karnataka. The then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa filed a contempt petition after which Karnataka offered to release 0.50 tmcft of water per day citing the poor storage.
