There have been widespread rumours on who would be directing and bankrolling Superstar Rajinikanth’s next, which is likely to be his penultimate film. The latest update from a highly reliable source is that Rajini 169 aka Thalaivar 169 will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. However, the most exciting news is that Kamal Haasan has come forward to produce the film under his home banner Raaj Kamal Films International. “The story was initially pitched to Kamal Haasan by Lokesh. However, Kamal felt that Rajini would suit the script better than him and asked Lokesh to narrate it to him. Rajini, too, was impressed with the story and agreed to be a part of it and Kamal Haasan said that he would like to produce it. We will know later if he will also play a cameo in the film,” said the source to DT Next.

The film is expected to go onfloors in the second half of this year as Rajini is busy shooting for his 168th film with Siruthai Siva and Lokesh is simultaneously is helming Vijay’s Master. An official announcement is expected to be made in June this year.
