CHENNAI: Veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja is in stable condition, the hospital administration said on Sunday.

The director was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after he suddenly developed breathing difficulty. He was taken to the emergency care unit, where he was given immediate treatment. Doctors later confirmed that his health condition is stable.

Last year, Bharathiraja’s only son, actor and filmmaker Manoj Bharathiraja, passed away suddenly. Following the personal loss, the director had been under emotional stress and spent a few months resting at his daughter’s residence in Malaysia before returning to Chennai.

Now aged over 80, Bharathiraja was also admitted to a private hospital in Chennai last month due to health-related issues and was discharged after treatment.
