History sheeters killed in police encounter in Guduvanchery

Vinod has at least 50 cases including 10 murder cases while Ramesh has 20 cases including 7 murder cases, police said.

CHENNAI: Two history sheeters were killed in an encounter by the Tambaram special team police when they attacked the police during the vehicle check in the wee hours of Tuesday near Guduvanchery.

On Tuesday early morning, the Tambaram special team police were on vehicle check in the Karanaipuduchery Road near Guduvanchery.

Around 3.30 am a black Skoda who was speeding on the road tried to hit the Sub Inspector Sivagurunathan and stopped after ramming into the police vehicle.

Later the four men who came in the car started to attack the police using sickles. One of them attacked in the hand of the SI using sickle and was aiming to hit his head. Soon the Inspector Murugesan and Sub Inspector Sivagurunathan shot two men using their pistols. The other two men managed to escape from the spot.

The injured Sivagurunathan was rushed to the Chromepet GH and the two history sheeters were taken to the Chengalpattu GH but there the doctors declared history sheeters dead.

The police identified the deceased as Vinoth alias Sotta Vinoth (35) of Manivakkam has 10 murders and more than other 50 pending against him and his friend Ramesh (32) of Manivakkam has five murder and eight attempts to murder cases against him. The police have registered a case and searching for the other two associates of the two deceased.

''The SI managed to evade the lethal blow aimed at his head and shot at one of them, while the police inspector, Murugesan, who was also part of the team checking the vehicles, rushed to his colleague's help and fired at another man,'' a senior police official said.

Two others who also attacked the SI fled from the scene. The police rushed the two injured persons to the Chengalpattu government hospital where the doctors declared them ''brought dead,'' said police.
