AIADMK cadres protest against case filed against EPS

MADURAI: Many cadre of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the key opposition party, lodged a protest demonstration at Palanganatham in Madurai on Monday condemning the state government and its police force for filing an ‘FIR’ against their party’s interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and five others.

The agitating cadre raised slogans appealing for withdrawal of the case against EPS and five others during the protest led by RB Udhayakumar, Tirumangalam MLA, VV Rajan Chellappa, Tiruparankundram MLA and Sellur K Raju, Madurai West MLA.

While addressing the rally, Udhayakumar said the police had filed a false case against former CM and leader of the Opposition Palaniswami. Condemning Chief Minister MK Stalin led government, Udhayakumar said it has become a question of police dignity now and with these false charges on EPS, the state government did injustice to the AIADMK. The cadre of AIADMK would not fear repressive measures carried out by Stalin’s dictatorial government.

The ruling DMK is conspiring to suppress the leadership of EPS. The Stalin led government’s arrogance would be eroded to safeguard democracy and would relentlessly strive to revive ‘Amma rule’ with EPS back at the helm. If the dictatorial trend in the government continued, the cadre of Madurai would turn themselves into suicide bombers to protect the AIADMK from consequences. Those (AIADMK cadre) who belong to Madurai were never afraid of going to jail, Udhayakumar said.

MLA Chellappa in his address said the DMK led government booked several cases against AIADMK leaders, including MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and now against Palaniswami to divide the party, but all in vain.

The AMMK functionary, who boarded the flight in which Palaniswami was traveling, was drunk. But, the police did not carry out basic investigation with the drunken man, who shouted at EPS, and filed a case against EPS instead of taking action against him, they said.
