GCC requests cooperation to prevent dengue

CHENNAI: With the city reporting 600 dengue cases in the last two months, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has requested the public to cooperate in mosquito control measures.

"Fogging operation are being conducted in slum areas, parks and other places every day from 6 am to 7.30 am and 6pm to 7.30 pm. More than 10.97 lakh houses have been inspected and mosquito breeding was found in 9,117 houses. Actions have been taken against the house owners, " a Chennai Corporation press release said.

Meanwhile, a Chennai Corporation official said that the city reported 291 dengue cases in August and 309 cases in September. He added that no dengue deaths reported in the city during the period.

The civic body warned the residents of mosquito breeding due to the recent rains. "Residents should keep the surroundings clear of items where mosquitoes could breed, " the release said.
