Patrol vehicle hits pedestrians near Porur

Four pedestrians were injured after being hit by a police patrol vehicle that suddenly swerved to avoid being hit by a lorry on Mount-Poonamallee Road near Porur on Saturday evening.

Head Constable Gopinath of SRMC police station was at the wheel of the patrol vehicle. Around 6 pm, when it reached the Mount-Poonamallee Road from a lane, a lorry suddenly came across. Gopinath swerved the vehicle to avoid being hit, but lost control and rammed four pedestrians. The passers-by rushed the victims to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. The injured were identified as Manoj Kumar, Ajit Kumar, Kamatchi and a fourth person whose identity is not yet known. Some of them are said to have suffered fractures, said the police, who are inquiring the accident.
