In a circular to all schools about World No Tobacco Day (May 31) on Thursday, Sugandh Sharma, Additional director (Research and innovation), CBSE, said that all schools should ensure that Section 6 of the Indian Tobacco Control Act, 2003, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products in an area within radius of 100 yards of any educational institution, is effectively enforced through a display board  outside the institution.

The board has pointed out that creating an effective awareness is possible through the conduct of various competitions, where students apply their knowledge, observation and creativity, through a variety of media, on the spot.

It has asked schools to conduct various competitions like poster-making with the theme “Tobacco: A leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases”, essay writing about “Tobacco kills in any form or disguise.”

Students can also prepare a power point presentation (PPP) on “Tobacco: A leading risk factor for non-communicable diseases” and send photographs to the board on or before May 15 to show how they can use their presentation to raise the awareness among school mates and the community. The best student entries will get a certificate of merit from the board.
