Namibia's incumbent President Hage Geingob has won a second term, securing 56.3 per cent of the vote in the presidential election, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) said.

Geingob on Saturday defeated independent candidate Panduleni Itula, who received 29.2 per cent, Xinhua reported, citing ECN.

Geingob was in a tight race with fellow member of the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) Itula, who contested as an independent candidate.

Geingob secured 464,703 votes while Itula trailed behind with 242,657 votes.

The ECN also announced that the ruling SWAPO party won the parliamentary elections.
