Maldives chief justice arrested: Police
Maldives President Abdulla Yameen on Monday declared a state of emergency, ordered security forces into the supreme court and arrested a former president, in moves the opposition called a “purge” in the Indian Ocean island nation.
Maldives Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and another Supreme Court judge were arrested at dawn today, hours after President Abdulla Yameen declared a state of emergency, police said.
There were complaints of corruption against justices Saeed and Ali Hameed, police said in a brief statement after security forces stormed the apex court complex in the capital Male.
