According to prosecution, Ashwin Daudia (51) suspected his ex-wife Kiran Daudia (46) of joining a dating agency to meet men. One day, Ashwin lost his temper after a heated argument with his ex-wife and assaulted her. Later, he hid her body in a suitcase, a report published in regional UK daily Leicester Mercury on Saturday said.

However, Ashwin had denied the charges of muredering her. However, he accepted that he had an argument with the ex-wife.

Kiran's body was found in a suitcase, a day after the murder.

He admitted that he had lied to the police that his ex-wife did not return home from a morning shift at the call centre where she worked.

The accused was caught on CCTV dragging his ex-wife's body in a suitcase before dumping it in an alleyway.

The couple, who had an arranged marriage in India in 1988, were divorced in 2014 but continued to live separate lives under the same roof.

Their two sons had chosen to live with their mother and had little or no contact with father.

After a two-week trial, the Jury on Friday found Ashwin guilty and awarded 18 years of rigorous imprisonment.
