Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law Muhammad Safdar was arrested on Monday from the Benazir International Airport here by a special six-member National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team.
While Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, left the airport for her house as she had the option to get pre-arrest bail, the warrants of her spouse were non-bailable. The NAB had already apprised the Secretary National Assembly of their plan for the arrest.
Maryam Nawaz and her husband Muhammad Safdar had arrived at Benazir International Airport through Qatar Airways at around 01:20am on Monday, where they were received by PML-N senior leaders.
Maryam Nawaz and her husband are required to appear before the court on Monday for the hearing of a reference filed against the Sharif family on the order of the Supreme Court.
A six-member NAB team was present at the airport to arrest Muhammed Safdar as accountability court had issued non-bailable warrants to arrest Safdar for not appearing even after repeated summons.
He is kept at NAB office Islamabad and would be produced in the morning before accountability court in NAB references.
