Golden Globes 2017: La La Land shines with 7 awards
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone-starrer musical comedy La La Land clinched as many as seven honours at the recently held 74th Golden Globe Awards which was attended by the biggest stars of Hollywood.

Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the awards show — organised by Hollywood Foreign Press Association — took place at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Directed by Damien Chazelle, La La Land won in categories like Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy (Stone), Best Director — Motion Picture (Chazelle), Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture —Musical or Comedy (Gosling), Best Screenplay, Best Original Score — Motion Picture and Best Original Song — Motion Picture.
While Moon light won the Best Motion Picture — Drama award, actors Cassey Affleck and Isabelle Huppert took home the award for Best Actor and Actress in Motion Picture — Drama for their roles in Manchester By The Sea and Elle respectively. The Best Supporting Role — Male and Female Awards were given to actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals) and Viola Davis (Fences). Zootopia was declared as the winner for Best Motion Picture — Animated.
In the television categories, The Crown was announced as the winner for Best Television Series — Drama, while Atlanta was given the Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy award and the Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television trophy was given to The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
The 74th Golden Globe Awards paid a tribute to late actresses, mother-daughter Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, by showing clips of some of their memorable roles. The show also witnessed a surprise entry by actor Brad Pitt, who is currently fighting for the custody of his six children with Angelina Jolie. The actor was welcomed with a thunderous round of applause.
Indian stars make their presence felt
Actress Priyanka Chopra made her Golden Globes debut and co-presented one of the early awards at the ceremony. The 34-yearold actress, who was representing her upcoming film Baywatch, was invited to present an award in the television category. She co-presented the evening’s second award with The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, for Best TV Actor — Drama to Billy Bob Thornton for Goliath. Priyanka shimmered in a metallic gold Ralph Lauren dress accessorised with a simple pendant. India’s other international star, Deepika Padukone, also made her presence felt at the after party. She wore a Ralph Lauren yellow off-shoulder ensemble, accessorised with wavy tresses at the event. Indian origin British actor Dev Patel, along with eight-year-old Sunny Pawar, introduced their drama film Lion at the awards.
The film was nominated under three categories — Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Dressed in black tuxedo, the duo was welcomed with a huge round of applause. While Dev gave a synopsis of the film on stage, Sunny was cheered up by the audience when Dev lifted him up and Sunny said, “This is our film, Lion”.
