FBI raids home of former friend of California shooter
Federal agents in Riverside conducted a search early at what neighbors say was the house of a childhood friend of Syed Rizwan Farook, who with his wife killed 14 people in a mass shooting in California on Wednesday

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Laura Eimiller confirmed that a federal search warrant had been executed in Riverside overnight, but declined to give the address or comment on the reason for the search. A source close to the investigation said the search took place at the home of Enrique Marquez, and that investigators were looking into the relationship between Marquez and Farook. Marquez has not been charged with any crime.
IS members
On Saturday, Islamic State said the couple were followers of the militant group. Islamic State’s claim came in an online audio broadcast after US-born Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his Pa¬kistani wife Tashfeen Malik, 29, opened fire with assault rifles on a holiday party for civil servants in San Bernardino, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. The pair, who had left their six-month-old baby daughter with relatives, were killed two hours later in a shootout with police SWAT team members. If the Dec. 2 mass shooting proves to have been the work of people inspired by Islamist mil¬itants, it would be the deadliest such attack in the United States since Sept. 11, 2001.
New phase
Islamic State also claimed responsi¬bility for a Nov. 13 series of attacks in Paris in which gunmen and suicide bombers killed 130 people. Jeh Johnson, the secretary of Homeland Security, said enemies such as Islamic State have “outsourced attempts to attack our homeland, this requires a whole new approach, in my view.”
