As Jyotika’s Jackpot, produced by her husband Suriya, is all set to hit the screens this Friday, Revathi was the first to enter the venue to talk to us about the film. In the next couple of minutes, Jyotika hurriedly enters the room as Revathi tells her, “Hey, I reached the place before you Jo.” With a smile Jo replies, “Yes ma’am it got a little late for me.” The actors took the internet by storm with their action avatar blended with rib-tickling, in the recently-released Jackpot trailer. “We did whatever the project required us to do. We are colleagues who work for a better outcome of the projects that we work on. People say that there is a ‘healthy competition’, when two good performers share the screen space with. For instance, when I did Arangetra Velai with Prabhu and VK Ramasamy sir, we sat together to discuss the way to make the film look better. If there was competition, we would have participated in a reality show,” says Revathi. “I’m glad to have shared the screen space with Revathi ma’am. Being one of the most successful directors, she perceives every scene like a director does, which is amazing and which comes in handy on the sets,” Jo compliments Revathi. The dance and fight sequences in the trailer too caught everybody’s attention. Revathi says, “You should have watched Jo and Brinda on the sets. Their energy while they rehearsed for dance sequences was palpable.” Revathi, who plays Masha in the film, says that she took a break in between because, she feels that there is a dearth in comedy films. “That is my favourite genre, but I haven’t been getting good comical scripts. There used to be days when we sat with the entire family to watch NS Krishnan sir, Nagesh sir and Manorama Aachi’s comedies. Nowadays, I think comedies in Tamil cinema have gone overboard. However, Jackpot will be a laugh riot,” Revathi opens up.
Meanwhile, Jyotika, who has been focusing on doing women-centric films since her comeback with 36 Vayadhinile, says that working for her husband Suriya’s banner 2D Entertainment has done a world of good for her when it comes to her choice of films. “Firstly, I get my salary on time,” she laughs and quickly adds, “There is no budget constraint because Suriya doesn’t compromise on creativity. When it comes to women-centric films, no producer is willing to spend lavishly because they think these films do not give them returns like hero’s films do. What is even more sad is no prominent technicians come forward to work for such films. A composer like AR Rahman should come forward to work for such films as well. Unfortunately, he doesn’t.” Revathi instantly pats Jo and says, “Well said Jo. I’m glad you don’t mince words.” Coming back to the film, Jo says that her silambam skills will be on full display in Jackpot. “They cut a few silambam scenes from Ratchasi. In Jackpot, you will get to see some fight scenes with silambam. I learn it everyday in the evening along with my kids and Karthi’s wife Ranjini. I have suffered some injuries too,” she quips. Revathi says that she a would like to direct Jo in a film soon.
“Yes ma’am I am a huge fan of your films. Let’s work together soon,” assures Jyotika. Apart from Revathi, Jo says that she would like to work with Simran. “Simran and I keep telling each other for quite sometime that we will have to do a movie soon. We have mutual love and respect for our works. Apart from that my next film is Ponmagal Vandhaal and Jeethu Joseph’s film with Karthi, which is a family entertainer,”she concludes.
