Chennai
My 7-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency. I am wondering how that can be possible as we live in a sunny city like Chennai?
- A resident of Ashok NagarÂ
Believe it or not, we are seeing this deficiency and even rickets–a childhood bone disorder–even among children from affluent families. With more couples opting for single children, parents are overprotective and do not allow them to sunlight. While treatment is available in the form of injections, syrups and tablets, without timely intervention, the milestones of normal physical growth cannot be achieved.Â

Until what age can one take care of their heart?Â
- Suchitra D, a resident of Anna NagarÂ
You can never be ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to take care of your heart. Preventing heart disease would require you to make smart choices and anyone at any age can benefit from these choices. Starting with choosing a healthy eating plan, we must ensure we eat a lot of fruits and nuts to avoid fatty foods. Besides, it is also important to avoid smoking and exposure to second hand smoke. Also, do not brush aside snoring. Lastly, go for regular lipid profile tests.Â
