What happens to one on over-exposure to air pollution?

Sowmya M, a resident of Arumbakkam

Exposure to high levels of air pollution during pregnancy has been linked to miscarriages as well as premature birth, autism spectrum disorder and asthma in children. Air pollution can damage the brain development of children. Pneumonia, which kills almost one million children under the age of five every year, is associated with air pollution. Children who breathe in higher levels of pollutants also face a greater risk of short-term respiratory infections and lung damage. It is important to consult doctors on observing symptoms of respiratory issues.

When does plastic surgery come of use?

Srinath R, a native of Kodambakkam

Plastic surgery is often misinterpreted as a beautification process. However, it is important to note that it is so much more than that. In the case of defects or deformities of soft tissues from scalp to foot that arise due to injuries, tumour excision, burns or the like, a reconstructive surgery can be done. It proves to very useful in the case of facial injuries with fractures and injuries of scalp, eyes, lips, nose and ears. Besides, plastic surgeries can also prove useful when suffering from infections, burns and the like.
