What can be done when my child is suffering from poor immunity?
- Jothi J, resident of Gopalapuram
Healthy practices like hand washing before eating and after using the toilet have to be taught from a very young age. These cannot be learnt later. We have been noticing the issue of hygiene hypothesis among some parents. It is basically the lack of exposure to infectious agents, symbiotic microorganisms and parasites during early childhood, thereby increasing susceptibility to allergic diseases by suppressing the natural development of the immune system. However, it is important to note that going overboard on cleanliness too does not help and it ends up making the children fall sick more often. Moderation is the key, when we talk about hygiene.

Colorectal cancer is a cancer, which starts in the colon or the rectum start as a growth on the inner lining of the colon or rectum which can change into cancer over time (usually many years), but not all the growths become cancer. While colorectal cancer can occur at any age, it is mostly diagnosed in those over 50-years-old. If detected early, it can be prevented or effectively treated. While more and more young people are being affected by this form of cancer today, it continues to be something is detected very late, in a more aggressive state. While it important to go in for regular screenings, maintaining a healthy weight is also essential. It is also important to exercise your body.
