I have a five-year-old daughter, who is in Class 1. It has become a daunting task to make her eat. She is extremely choosy. What should I do to make my child eat adequate food?Â
Abhinaya, Palavakkam
This is a common problem I see among children today. One of the common mistakes parents do is packing two to three boxes of rice, or noodles for lunch. Children begin to dislike food due to this. You can innovate with a few staple food items like dosa, adding vegetables or greens to them. Make food attractive for her. If the child likes potatoes, stuff it with other vegetables. They can have pizzas and pasta once in a while, moderation is the important factor here. Let them feel hungry and ask for food, don’t stuff them.

My two-year-old son has Down Syndrome. I have been told there would be eyesight issues with him. What are they?Â
Dinakaran, Aminjikarai
Yes, that’s true. Most of them can have refractive power. But with poor mental development they may not be able to express the problem. It is best to get it checked by the time they are one or two years old.Â
