Cataract is an age-related condition. In India, the average cataract age is 65-70 years, although people  in their 20s and 30s can also develop cataract. It can affect both eyes. it could progress faster in one eye than the other. The surgery involves the removal of lens that is clouded and replacing it with artificial lens. It can be brought down to zero through multifocal lens.Â

I have been diagnosed with second stage throat cancer. How will this treatment affect my daily life? Will I be able to work, exercise, and perform my usual activities?
Amalan K, Tiruvallur
Generally, people with stage II throat cancers do very well. We would however need to know that which sub-side of threat is involved, which could be either the food or the wind pipe. Stage 2 throat cancers are usually treated with radiation since they are still at an early stage (considering the biopsy is squamous cell carcinoma).Â
This is quite common for all the head-neck cancers at an early stage i.e stage I and stage II. These early stage cancers are generally treated with single modality treatments which are either done by surgery/ laser or radiotherapy.Â
Today laser treatment is available to treat throat cancers without removing the voice box. Usually, such patients should be able to work and exercise regularly without much of a weakness. In-fact we have several patients who come for treatments and then they head back to work within 30 mins. With newer technology, the side effects following the treatment have changed dramatically. it is important to eat healthy food, do yoga or meditation for overall wellbeing.Â
