TECH NEXT: Gen-next smartphone sports a path-breaking foldable display
With a camera that combines 6 lenses, Vivo’s new flagship camera smartphone is clearly not leaving anything to chance. The Vivo V17 Pro is a good looking phone with its chic form factor.

We reviewed the Glacier Ice variant. It doesn’t feel too unwieldy, despite the 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display (1080 x 2400 pixels). The pop-up camera keeps bezels to a bare minimum, allowing Vivo to stretch the screen-to-body ratio to an impressive 91.65%.
The V17 Pro is propelled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal memory. It’s certainly not the most formidable hardware spec sheet in its segment, but Vivo is clear that this one’s more for camera enthusiasts than power users. The device still notched up a respectable score of 179064 on our AnTuTu benchmark test. Battery life (4100 mAh) is another plus, as the battery gets an extra boost with fast charging.
The dual selfie pop-up cam, a first according to Vivo, is one of the device’s talking points. It comes with a bunch of features aimed at selfie addicts, including a ‘Pose master’ feature, in the unlikely event that you don’t have the best angles already sorted. The selfie cam adds an 8MP wide-angle selfie lens to the formidable 32MP primary front lens, making it easier to shoot ‘groupfies’ with a wide 105-degree field of view. The quad rear camera is fully loaded too. It features a 48MP primary lens that teams up with an 8MP wide-angle lens, a 13MP telephoto lens and a 2MP bokeh lens. It’s versatile as well with a variety of camera experiences including the Super Macro mode. Lowlight images are decent, we wish the camera UI was less cluttered and more intuitive. Camera results were terrific in our tests; this is one of the better cameras in the sub Rs 30,000 price segment. (Rs 29,990)
Samsung Galaxy Fold: The anticipation for Samsung’s pioneering dual screen device has been building almost since the brand unveiled it at the beginning of this year. The Samsung Galaxy Fold with its folding display is one of the most innovative tech breakthroughs we’ve seen in a while and it comes at a premium. You can mistake it for a 4.6-inch smartphone that slips easily into your pocket or palm. That’s until it morphs into a large tablet-like screen, a Dynamic AMOLED 7.4-inch Flex display.
The user interface allows you to make the switch seamlessly and handles both its avatars as a smartphone and a tablet. A sophisticated hinge with multiple interlocking gears keeps the device secure. It’s packed with formidable hardware – a finger-print scanner, six cameras, 12GB RAM with 512GB of internal storage and superior AKG speakers. It features a robust 4380 mAh battery under the hood. Samsung has bundled the device with a set of its wireless Galaxy Buds and also offers a dedicated round-the-clock concierge service for Galaxy Fold owners in India. (Rs 1,64,999)
