Selfie cameras that pop to life and laptops light as a feather
Huawei’s brand new smartphone — the Y9 Prime 2019, comes hot on the heels of the company’s strong global Q2 results. It is also the brand’s first smartphone kitted with a pop-up selfie camera.
Chennai
The Y9 Prime aims to find the balance between power and style, both key drivers in the sub Rs 20,000 price segment. It opts for a distinctive two-tone finish (in Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue colour variants) that sets it apart.
The pop-up camera stretches the screen real estate and offers an immersive experience minus the notch. Huawei pushes the screen-to-body ratio of this 6.59-inch display over 90%. Colours are vivid in this display that packs close to 400 pixels per inch. Despite a large display, this device feels quite nice in your hand. Huawei calls it a 3D Arc design and it certainly offers a better grip. The pop-up selfie cam is a growing trend, the 16MP selfie shooter works seamlessly and is drop-proof. Huawei calls it smart fall sense — it has been tested for multiple uses just like most other pop-up selfie cameras of its rivals.
The Y9 Prime boasts of a triple rear camera that includes a 16MP primary lens and an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens that makes it quite a versatile package. The device is propelled by Huawei’s Kirin 710 Processor that teams up with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Memory. The device makes room for an expandable storage slot and features a solid 4000 mAh battery under the hood. It’s good to see a Type-C charging port; many similar priced devices still sport a Micro-USB slot. The device runs the newest version of Huawei’s custom UI — EMUI 9.1 that is layered over Android 9.0 (Pie). Huawei packs the Y9 Prime 2019 with a host of features but it’s the design language of the device that is probably its biggest draw. (Rs 15,990)
Syska BT670 Boombox: Syska’s new Bluetooth speaker comes in a host of vibrant colours, including a fluorescent green. With a 6W Power output and 50mm powerful bass drivers, this speaker more than packs a punch. A 500 mAh battery delivers about seven hours of battery playback. You can also hook up your smartphone or tablet with a 3.5mm Aux cable. The BT670 works equally well as a standalone device — it offers a micro SD card slot and an in-built FM Radio. (Rs 2,699)
Lenovo Yoga S940: It’s the world’s first laptop with contour glass that wraps around its bezels. The 4K HDR display is truly gorgeous and gets a boost with Dolby Vision and a Dolby Atmos Speaker system with smart audio amplifiers. Perfect if you want to catch an HD movie on the go. The ultra-light laptop (weighs just 1.2 kgs) features a rotating hinge that enables the display to tilt to a comfortable 25-degree drafting mode, for remarkable flexibility and stability when drawing, sketching or annotating with a digital pen.
