Tech Next: Of feature-packed budget phones and storage devices
Sub Rs 10,000 smartphones don’t necessarily mean just cheap anymore. We’ve seen quite a few brands like Xiaomi and Samsung up their budget phone game over the last few months. Infinix brings some of that design refinement with its new Infinix S4 smartphone with a plastic back and a choice of three colour options — Nebula Blue, Twilight Purple and Space gray.

The camera specs are quite formidable for a budget phone. The S4 is one of the few phones at this price point with a 32MP selfie shooter and also features a triple-rear camera. This rear cam set-up also includes a wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view. The device opts for a Quad-LED flash option for better results in low-light if you’re okay to resort to photography with a flash. We like the auto-detection mode that recognises up to eight different scenes and simplifies photography. Smartphones have become the primary screen for many users, the Infinix S4 features a 6.21-inch HD+ display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an impressive 89 per cent screen to body ratio. Other hardware highlights include a robust 4000 mAh battery, a Helio P22 processor and 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and support for Micro SD cards up to 256GB. (Rs 8,999)
Seagate Backup Plus Slim: The first thing you will notice about Seagate’s new storage device is its form factor. It’s not just ultra-slim but the textured finish adds a great design element. It’s geared for both legacy computers and new-age laptops with USB-C ports and works with both Windows and Mac out of the box. Data security is one of the key boxes this portable drive ticks, with password protection through hardware encryption. This matches the same standards that intelligence agencies use across the world. You also get the convenience of back-up on demand with one click. This 2TB Seagate device comes with a two-month complimentary membership to Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan allowing you to edit, organise, store and share full-resolution images from anywhere. (Rs 7,999)
Blaupunkt BT-100: German audio major Blaupunkt adds a competitively priced Bluetooth speaker to its portfolio. The BT-100 also incorporates an FM radio and makes room for a storage slot that supports Micro SD cards up to 32GB — there’s room for up to 6,000 songs on this card. You can also sync your smartphone or tablet with this speaker that features dual speaker drivers and one passive radiator. The BT100 also offers the option of an aux cable input aside from Bluetooth 4.2 that offers faster pairing and a better range. The sturdy mesh on the exterior adds to this speaker’s tough and durable form factor. The 12W speaker punches above its weight with a surprisingly good output while the 2000 mAh battery delivers about ten hours of playback. It’s lightweight, you can toss it into your backpack. The built-in mic makes it a handy accessory for video calls or conference calls at work. (Rs 2,999)
