Q&A: Bridging the gap between volunteers and NGOs
Saiyasodharan R, a former IT professional along with his core team members, Sathish Kumar, Haribabu and Surendhar Thina has created an app, Grassroots that will create a bridge between volunteers and NGOs. We talk to him for more details:
Chennai
How did you come up with the idea of the app?Â
I have been volunteering with various NGOs and social organisations for close to eight years now. Many times I have realised that these organisations are on the look-out for volunteers to help their cause. At the same time many of my friends have been planning to engage in social work but don’t know whom to contact. I realised there is a need for a bridge to connect them. So we came up with the app, Grassroots.
How does it work?Â
The app helps you select location, cause and time you want to spend on a cause, rather than spending hours on the Internet to research on the NGOs in town. You will also get updates on social activities happening around your locality, filtered by the cause you espouse. It also gives the history of volunteers to check their credentials.
What is the basic idea behind creating this app?Â
We want the current generation to come forward and support social causes.
