The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. That looks like a tall insurmountable goal but the global community has found novel ways (pun intended) to help them reach the goal. Here are some of the useful tools to help quality writing done. These writing tools are highly useful even if you are not participating in the challenge. These will help you to improve your everyday productivity.

    WriteoMeter:

It’s a simple app to track your everyday word count. Once you feed it the target word count and the deadline by which you need to finish the book, the app breaks your daily and weekly goals and uses nifty charts and graphs to show the progress you are making. The app gives you motivation to finish your daily word count goals so that it helps you to achieve your overall goal.

    SpeechNotes App:

Have you ever attempted to write an article or author a book while walking? Well, this app lets you do that. It converts your speech into text.  I’ve used this on my daily walks and found this to be a useful tool.  Even though it has an Indian English as an option, its accuracy is only 70 per cent.  You may have to revisit and do a lot of corrections.

    Spreaker App:

This is a very good voice recorder. I found great success with this. During my morning walks, I put on my ear phones, fire up this app, and talk about the ideas for a chapter.  Once I finish my walk, I download the file and have it transcribed by a professional transcriber.  You will be surprised how much content you create in a one-hour walk!

    EverNote:

This is a fantastic app for capturing ideas, notes or photos for your book. This acts like your virtual notebook and can be a huge boost especially when you are researching for your book. I would highly recommend this.

    Scrivener:

This is one of the best writing software that I have come across.  I absolutely swear by this for writing my books. I picked up this tool after I found that some of the biggest writers recommended this. It helps you to easily categorise your chapters. It has a clean interface and lets you focus on your writing without worrying about the bells and whistles. It lets you easily convert your manuscript into an ebook and is easy to export into Microsoft Word.

One of the biggest road block for writers to get their work done is..... you guessed it right, the Internet.  You would think that you’ll only peek into your Instagram or email and before long it sucks away your attention and time. Most successful writers encourage you to turn off your WiFi and focus on your writing. There are apps that helps temporarily disable your Internet and one such app is Freedom. This temporarily cuts off Internet from and the only way to get it back on is to restart your computer.

The writer is a digital entrepreneur, professor and author of five books. He can be reached at Kiruba@Kiruba.com.
