Yves Soglo, a videographer, had been tasked with creating an Ottawa version of the video for the Justin Timberlake song Can’t Stop the Feeling, which portrays regular people with no dance training busting moves in various locations.

Soglo decided the Canada Day festivities downtown would be a great place to film people dancing. He spotted a group of police officers, asked them if they were interested, and one agreed to be filmed. The officer, Tracey Turpin, signed a waiver and got a few dance tips from Soglo, who used to teach dance. He showed her basic hip-hop moves before they broke out into salsa dancing. Soglo even dipped the officer at one point in the video.

Officer Turpin lost her hat as she twirled around but quickly put it back on and continued dancing on the street. A group of people clapping as they walked by joined in and danced with Soglo and Turpin in a circle on Rideau Street, which was shut down to traffic for Canada Day.

The moment was captured on video and posted on Facebook and YouTube and has garnered over a million views as yet. With the recent turn of events in America that witnessed a sniper attack on white policemen during a ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest, this video of an African American civilian and a white police official dancing on the streets in Canada has come as a refreshing change. Maybe, Americans should learn some vital lessons from their neighbour.
