Political parties have already set aside a team for mobilising traction in virtual space. “Now we can expect political parties pumping in more money on digital platforms,” says Sorav Jain, a social media expert. When it comes to politicians, parties, they are working on utilising the space to its fullest.
There are apps created for political leaders and parties but they mostly contain the same content as on other platforms. “DMK Treasurer MK Stalin’s official app features the latest news and updates, promises an opportunity to interact with the politician and participate in various initiatives.
The AIADMK app too provides info on the party and its initiatives, while connecting users to its social networking sites. For Change, an app for Anbumani Ramadoss is an interactive one where people can write to him, join the campaign and even live stream his videos,” says P Santhosh an app developer. But there are other apps to help voters to take them through the process.
Raoul Andrew Mendanha, an app expert and founder at Dzignr, says, “TN Elections, the official app, has a unique feature - the Complaints section, where a voter can file a complaint to the Election Commission directly. The voter can also capture the fraud that they witnessed of the candidate and upload it. These images and videos are then automatically sent to the Election Commission.”
Another app called Easy, which stands for Electoral Assistance System, is used to view or update the elector’s entries with the Election Commission.
