CHENNAI: The State Assembly proceedings were adjourned on Tuesday after adopting a condolence resolution mourning the demise of Congress MLA Thirumagan Everaa, former MLAs and eminent personalities.

Soon after the House was convened for the day, Speaker M Appavu read out the condolence resolution, which was followed by adoption of obituary references condoling the demise of football legend Pele, former DMK MP Dr Masthan, eminent Tamil scholars Avvai Natarajan, K Nedunchezhiyan, dialogue writer Aroor Das and writer Manohar Devadoss.

The Speaker adjourned the House after the members observed silence for two minutes as a mark of respect for the deceased ones. The session would continue on Wednesday and Thursday with the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor for his address in the State Assembly.

Chief Minister MK Stalin will reply to the debate on Friday, January 13.

The session, first in the calendar year, began on an acrimonious note on Monday after the governor 'omitted' certain portions and made 'additions' to the text prepared by the state government. The House witnessed an unprecedented twist in the proceedings after the Chief Minister successfully moved resolutions for 'removing' the portions delivered by the governor with 'omissions' and 'additions', and taking on record only the speech printed and circulated among the MLAs in the House.
