CHENNAI: VCK Chief Minister Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday countered the statement of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagawat on caste and varna by saying that caste and varna need to be annihilated.

"Mohan Bhagawat, caste and varna are not something to be forgotten as you claim. They have to be completely annihilated from the very root. Please realise this and accept it and come forward to annihilate caste-varna and destroy it without leaving behind the smallest remnant. Come forward to take part in this inevitable, historical struggle,” said Thirumavalavan, in a statement.

Recently, Mohan Bhagwat commented that "caste and varna are things of the past and that they must be forgotten going forward."

Taking exception to the comments of Bhagwat, Thirumavalavan said that "Indian society, or rather, Hindu society cannot function at all if it were to avoid caste and varna- because caste and varna have penetrated every aspect of life from beginning to end, from top to bottom in this society- and now form a part of its lifeblood."

He also said that over several generations the discriminations based on caste and varna have solidified which in turn dictate and demarcate the birth-based hereditary occupations of society.

"Mr Mohan Bhagwat is one such person who has enjoyed great privileges and opportunities over several generations because of his birth. If he or his people had faced discrimination, humiliation, atrocities, poverty and torture would he be able to call forth to people to forget everything and rally together as Hindus?" added Thirumavalavan.
