8 arrested in Salem for celebrating birthday by cutting cake with machete

COIMBATORE: Eight persons were arrested in Salem on Saturday for celebrating birthday by cutting cake with a machete. Police said Prabhu, (24), from Kondalampatti had celebrated his birthday with friends past midnight on October 4 near ‘Chithankadu valavu’. “He cut the cake with a machete along with his friends identified as Sundaramurthy, Surya, Prakash, Ashok, Meyyalagan, Vijayakumar and Muruganandam. They then shared photos of them wielding knives during birthday celebrations on social media,” police said. Police picked them up and enquiries revealed that they were involved in criminal activities in the past. They were arrested and produced in court to be remanded in judicial custody.
