Madurai benefitting from central schemes: Khuba

MADURAI: Over 20 lakh people across Madurai district are enjoying the benefits from welfare schemes implemented by the central government. People, especially from poor families, farmers, workers and street vendors have been receiving benefits through various schemes, including housing for all and safe drinking water, Bhagwanth Khuba, Union Minister of State for Chemicals, Fertilizers and New and Renewable Energy said in Madurai on Monday after a review meeting on the implementation of central schemes in Madurai district.
Talking to reporters, Khuba said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on taking the welfare schemes to every beneficiary till the last mile of the society.
Many street vendors, mostly women, felt that they had lost their hopes post COVID, but through Prime Minister Svanidhi Scheme each of them received Rs 10,000 and were continuing with their business. Now, each of the street vendors were earning not less than Rs 400 daily. They were also prompt in repaying loans to bankers and nowadays they have started expanding their business.
Further, the Union Minister said under the PM Mudra Yojana, a credit funding scheme to offer business loans, around four lakh people benefitted in Madurai district and loans to the tune of Rs 1,800 crore have been disbursed so far.
