CHENNAI: M Selvakumar, the suspended district registrar has been booked by the DVAC, along with his mother-in-law and sister-in-law for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known source of income to the tune of Rs 65 lakh during 4 years (2009 to 2012).

Selvakumar has constructed a luxurious house worth several lakhs in the name of his sister-in-law Thendral in Vilankuruchi, Coimbatore, DVAC noted. Thendral is a teacher at a private school at Karaikudi. She lost her husband Ravindran 10 years back. Selvakumar’s mother-in-law Pandiyammal is a pensioner.

DVAC has cited the two women as suspects in the case. He was in possession of immovable assets in the name of Pandiyammal and Thendral, DVAC noted. In the beginning of the check period, he had assets valued around Rs 11.46 lakh. His assets, including that of the other two suspects, zoomed to 89.82 lakh after 4 years.

Sleuths from the DVAC pegged the total disproportionate assets to Rs 65.87 lakh during the check period. The asset is 242% more than Selvakumar’s known sources of income, the investigating agency noted and slapped a case against the trio, under the provisions of prevention of corruption act.
