CHENNAI: The state Rural Development Department had directed the district administrations to ensure that the grama sabha meetings to be held on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, should not be conducted at places associated with any religion.
In a letter, Darez Ahamed, Commissioner, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, addressed to all Collectors except Chennai, directed them to ensure that the grama sabha meetings are conducted in all the panchayats in which all wards are covered based on rotation basis. He also directed them to hold the meetings by 11 am on October 2 and ensure that the meetings are not held in religious places.
