CHENNAI: Taking note of the splurge in Influenza cases, especially among children, former chief minister and ousted AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam urged the Tamil Nadu government to replicate measures enforced in Puducherry in the State.

"I had requested to follow Puducherry government's policy on flu to declare holiday for schools, but the Health Minister said Tamil Nadu is on a better footing in handling flu cases and no such policy is required. The statistics are presenting a different picture,” said Panneerselvam.

Citing the data that 25 per cent are positive for flu of those who tested, the danger of the spread is not an exaggeration, he added.

Pointing to the contradictions on report relating to the paucity of medicines, Panneerselvam said: "Ma Subramanian informed there is no shortage of medicines in Tamil Nadu, a helpline was issued to report scarcity of medicines".

Panneerselvam also brought to the government's notice the steady rise in Covid cases in the State and urged to oil the response mechanism.
