TN cases drop to 542; one death recorded

CHENNAI: The number of daily COVID cases dropped to 542 in the State on Thursday, while taking the cases so far to 35,65,562. Chennai recorded 79 cases and Coimbatore 68. Perambalur, Ramanathapuram and Tenkasi did not report any fresh cases. The State has an overall positivity rate of 2.3 per cent, with the highest of 6.4 per cent in Coimbatore.
The active cases in the State stood at 5,496 with Chennai reporting 2,258 active cases. As many as 24,112 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. A total of 675 more people were discharged following treatment across the State, taking the recoveries so far to 35,22,032. One more death was recorded taking the toll to 38,034.
