DMK IT wing responds to SC’s jibe against PTR with cryptic messages
The DMK IT wing on Wednesday responded to the ‘wise’ jibe of the court by circulating a cryptic message. Declaring itself as an ‘intelligent’ party that respects court judgments, the message read, “The name of the party headquarters is Anna ‘arivalayam’ (temple of knowledge).”
CHENNAI: The ruling DMK has put its weight behind its ‘outspoken’ Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan despite the Supreme Court pulling up the loquaciousness of the Minister.
As the apex court pulled up the DMK for the comments made by the party and its Minister PTR on the freebies issue, a few party functionaries and frontal organisations backed the informed Finance Minister on the issue. Hearing the freebies case, Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana on Tuesday was quoted as saying, “Don’t think you are the only wise party.”
Referring to the “I belong to the Dravidian stock” speech of Anna in the Parliament that “shook AB Vajpayee and made Nehru realise and fulfil the demands of Tamil Nadu,” the message said, “Despite the court pronouncing an unfavourable order, it (DMK) contributed to the first amendment of the Constitution to protect reservation. It got the Common Entrance Test scrapped and made members of all castes as archakas. Dravidian leaders have performed such intelligent acts,” the message read.
A cautious state IT Minister Mano Thangaraj tweeted, “Furtherance to Article 38 our state strives to promote the welfare of the people to ensure justice, social, economic and political, to honour and achieve Article 14. DMK in TN is of the people, by the people and for the people. Abides to the Constitution of India.” A few other functionaries like joint secretary of DMK media wing R Rajiv Gandhi also posted equally loaded messages in their own style.
