    TIRUCHY: The inmates at the special camp prison created a ruckus on the premises on Tuesday demanding the return of their mobiles that were seized during a surprise raid recently.

    On July 20, a NIA team, which had made a surprise raid in the special camp prison, had picked up as many as 11 inmates, who had a track record of involvement in various offences, including smuggling activities. The team also seized their mobile phones and took the list of persons they had contacted and conducted interrogation with their contacts too.

    In such a backdrop, the city police conducted a search on the prison premises and seized as many as 155 mobile phones and various other banned products. After this, 15 inmates launched a protest on Monday demanding to return their mobiles. On Tuesday, the inmates climbed atop the compound walls of their premises and demanded their release from the prison, besides seeking the return of their mobile phones.

    The jail staff held talks and following assurance from police officers the protesting prisoners came down.
