CHENNAI: School for students of 1 to 10 reopened across Tamil Nadu on Monday. After the schools were shut down amid final exams owing to pandemic in March 2020, students are returning to schools for the academic year 2022-23 after a long gap.

Post the completion of final exams on June 13, students were given one-month summer vacation till June 12. Meanwhile, the State government on June 6 announced that all students from LKG to class 9 will be promoted, barring students who were long absent.

Chief Minister MK Stalin taking to Twitter on Monday congratulated students for the new beginning. Stalin tweeted, “I urge students to make most of this fresh academic year 2022-23. Though students might have attended online classes during the lockdown, it is no parallel to the joy of learning from a classroom.”

Speaking to DT Next, S Prathik, a class 10 student at a government school in Koyambedu said that he is glad about schools reopening. “Since the pandemic, there has been a lot of dilemma about school, education and importantly about exams. The uncertainty caused by the pandemic triggered a lot of my classmates to quit school too.”

Meanwhile schools for class 9 and 12 will reopen on June 27 and June 20 respectively.
