TIRUCHY: Sources said, that Rani (name changed), a 56 year old spinster from Manapparai, was residing alone in her house. After her sister’s demise, Rani was residing in the same house with her sister’s 30-year-old daughter. Rani claimed to have been possessed by the spirit of her sister. Fearing problems, Rani and her niece stayed outside. Someone had told them to undertake a fast for 40 days. They were surviving just by consuming water alone. Meanwhile, neighbours, who had sensed something amiss, alerted Manapparai police. On Sunday evening, police were shocked to see both the women lying on the floor. The police advised them to abort their fast. But, the women refused. However, cops forcibly took them to the GH.
