Scrap GO allowing lateral entry in audit dept recruitment: OPS
Former Chief Minister and All AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam on Saturday urged Chief Minister Stalin to withdraw a government order passed in favour of a lateral entry system for the recruitment to the newly created Director-General Audit to monitor all the auditing agencies.
CHENNAI: In a statement, Panneerselvam said that the state government’s new move of appointing DG Audit and powers conferred to that position is against the constitution of India.
“As per the order, the DG Audit position will be filled by absorbing the people who are holding such positions in the Indian Audit and Account Services and IAS of Tamil Nadu cadre. The GO also has a provision to appoint a person who has some experience in private or public sector firms to the position of DG Audit. The DG audit shall invite any private or public firms to do the audit on any departments,” the deputy leader of the opposition noted.
He further pointed out CM Stalin’s resistance during his stint as the Opposition leader when the Centre invited private people for post of Joint Secretary to finance, revenue, cooperation, forest and environment and road transport departments. “When the Centre invited applications, Stalin stated that it is a dishonour to the IAS officers. However, his government is doing the same which shows the dual stance. As per his earlier statement, the current move of statement government is also against the Constitution and would cause disgrace to officials,” OPS said.
