Infections drop to 30 in Tamil Nadu, active cases now stand at 284

Tamil Nadu witnessed a further decline in Covid cases, reporting 30 infections on Saturday, taking the number so far in the State to 34,52,887. The highest number of 12 cases was reported in Chennai while 27 districts did not report any new cases.

Currently, there are a total of 284 active cases in the State of which 130 are in Chennai. Other districts record less than 30 active cases while 10 districts have no active cases.

With 24,785 samples being tested for Covid in the past 24 hours, the overall test positivity rate (TPR) in Tamil Nadu stood at 0.1 per cent, while the TPR in Chennai was recorded at 0.4 per cent.

Mega vax drive: 4 lakh doses administered

As many as 4 lakh doses of vaccines were administered across the State, including 61,598 first dose and 3.18 lakh second dose and 19,020 precautionary booster doses. A total of 10 crore doses have been administered at government vaccination sites in Tamil Nadu so far.

On Saturday, a total of 1.55 lakh doses of Covishield were administered, while 52,040 doses of Covaxin were given. As many as 13,014 doses of Corbevax were administered to children aged 12-15 years. There are about 21.21 lakh children eligible to get vaccinated with Corbevax and 13.79 lakh people have received the vaccine.
