When the crop loan waiver was announced in January 2021, a total of 1,11,833 farmers in Salem and Namakkal districts were provided the waiver certificates and 51,017 people were left out due to the irregularities. Following a representation by the farmers of the two districts, Chief Minister M K Stalin, considering the interest of farming and farmers, agreed to waive their loans to pave the way for extending new loans to them.
