Distributing direct loan to the tune of Rs 2.22 crore to as many as 201 women Self Help Groups in Tiruvarur district, the Food Minister said, the state government has been undertaking a series of projects to uplift the women particularly to ensure them of economic independence.

He said that the former chief minister Jayalalithaa was very particular to augment the income of the women and so the state government which has been functioning with the divine blessings of the late chief minister has been introducing a series of such developmental projects for the welfare of women.

“The women play a major part in the society and so the state government has been supporting them in terms of providing them education and economical support and they have been showing remarkable change in their life style,” he added.

Project Director (Mahalir Thittam) Srilekha, RDO Balachandran, Kumbakonam Central Cooperative Bank president Asaithambi and others were present during the distribution.
