Speaking after inaugurating ‘Amma’ mini-clinic in Salem, the Chief Minister said that both the leaders did not have children, but people were their only heir.

“MGR founded AIADMK with an aim to work for the upliftment of downtrodden people and Jayalalithaa introduced several welfare schemes for them. Similarly, this government has opened Amma clinics to provide quality health care to people,” he said.

The statement from the Chief Minister comes in the wake of various political parties staking claim for the legacy of MGR.

The Chief Minister also accused DMK president MK Stalin of holding ‘virtual conferences’ with his party men only with an intention to blame the government. “Unlike him, I am meeting people and fulfilling their needs. But the DMK continues to work for the selfish interest of their family,” he added.

Later in Omalur, the Chief Minister announced the kick-starting of the election campaign for 2021 Assembly polls at his Edappadi constituency on Saturday. He then reiterated that all the constituents of the AIADMK alliance during Parliamentary polls will continue for the Assembly polls.

On setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Thoppur in Madurai, the Chief Minister said that the state government has given land for setting up of AIIMS, but the Centre is yet to take it over.

“As a pipeline is running through a part of the land, we also gave 22 acres of alternative land. But, the concerned officials from the Union government are yet to come and officially take over the land. The visit could be delayed due to COVID-19,” he said.

On price hike of domestic gas cylinder, the Chief Minister said that the state government will write to the Centre to control its prices.
