Leading the party’s agitation in chief minister’s native Salem in support of the Delhi farmers protest, Stalin said the PM should immediately convene the Parliament and roll back the three farm laws to demonstrate that the BJP regime would abide by democracy and he is the son of a poor mother.

Announcing DMK’s support to the farmers protest till the repeal of the farm laws, the DMK president referred to the PM’s guarantee to farmers on MSP (Minimum Support Price) and wondered why the PM, who orally guarantees MSP, did not include it in the law? “Even if it is a law, it is difficult to put it to practice. Will someone offer MSP based on the PM’s guarantee? Do the laws have provision for loan waiver, compensation or food grain or fertilizer subsidy or financial assistance for food grain storage,” Stalin asked, before drawing the PM’s attention to 10,281 farmers suicides in the country last year.

Criticising Modi for not honouring his promise of doubling farmers income and preventing farmers suicide, Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition said the three farm laws were the PM’s reward to farmers who had believed in his promise and voted for him.

Slamming Chief Minister Palaniswami for alleging that agents and middlemen were instigating farmers in Punjab, Stalin sought to know if the CM dares to say it in Punjab or Delhi. Asking if the CM was aware that the farmers inking an agreement with firms cannot move the court in the event of violation as per the new law, the DMK president said the CM could atone for his support to the farm laws by immediately passing an Assembly resolution against the farm laws.
