“There is nothing wrong in speaking politics in a government function as there is politics in every issue. DMK too had spoken politics in several government functions during their regime,” said Jayakumar, while addressing reporters in Chennai.

During the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chennai on Saturday Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam announced that AIADMK will continue its alliance with BJP in the upcoming state Assembly election in 2021. The announcement created controversy as the alliance was finalised at a government function.

DMK general secretary Duraimurugan criticised the state government for finalising alliance at a government function. Duraimurugan said that when rulers do not differentiate the difference between politics and governance it means that dictatorship had entered governance and it is equivalent to murder of democracy. When Jayakumar was asked about Duraimurugan’s statement, he replied that AIADMK is a democratic party and the party knows the difference between the governance and politics.

On the comments of DMK president MK Stalin on dynastic politics in AIADMK and entry of his son J Jayavardhan into politics, Jayakumar replied that Jayavardhan was brought into politics by the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa and he had no role in it.

“Can Stalin announce Duraimurugan as CM candidate instead of a person from his family,” questioned Jayakumar.
