“With an intention to reach the mismanagement and corruption of AIADMK government to the people, we organised awareness meetings and they (AIADMK) are not able to digest this and the result was this arrest,” Udhayanidhi told reporters soon after his detention. He, along with the youth wing members were taken to a hall in Nagapattinam.
Udhayanidhi said that the Chief Minister was touring the state during the pandemic freely, but we are denied permission. He asked why the police was biased. “But you (police) must know that we will definitely win in the upcoming Assembly polls,” he added.
Earlier, Udhayanidhi was given a rousing reception in Tiruchy when he arrived for the scheduled campaign meeting at Thirukuvalai. When he reached old Palpannai round about, DMK cadre, including youth wing members converged in large numbers and the police asked them not to crowd the junction. But, the cadre paid no heed to the instructions and the police went on stopping them.
This prompted an altercation between the police and the cadre. Still, the police were firm on their decision and asked only Udhayanidhi’s vehicle to pass.
Subsequently, Udhayanidhi alone proceeded, but the hasty cadre rushed back after around 10 minutes after he left and they joined at Ariyamangalam junction and there was a huge crowd again.
Meanwhile, in the evening, DMK members staged a protest across the region condemning the arrest of Udhayanidhi Stalin. In Vellore, 30 persons, includign MP Kathir Anand, were arrested for protesting police action against Udhayanidhi.
