Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court heard the plea requesting postponement of school reopening.

Tamil Nadu government had announced reopening of schools from November 16, while many commented the decision to be shortsighted of practical difficulties.

The Bench observed that many states, including neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, reported spike in covid cases post school reopening and recommended government to make the needful decision taking into account these kinds of reporting across the nation.

Talking of the plight of students in far flung areas, Court said, with limited transportation, commuting would be difficult for students from other districts to reach their institutions. Students can't strictly adhere to physical distancing, if they get infected it would add to the woes caused by the second wave, it added.

The Bench adjourned the hearing to November 20 recommending the government to go ahead with school reopening after December.
