Every day, around 50 new patients, who join the centre, are systematically treated by a team of Siddha doctors lead by Dr Vikaram Kumar. The Collector said that the paper to be published in a scientific journal under the aegis of ICMR would be authored by 6 doctors, including principal investigator Vikar Kumar. “While 19 patients tested negative in 5 days, another 19 were also cured in seven days,” Vikram Kumar said.

Both the Tirupattur and Vellore CCCs undertook these trials following clearance from CTRI (Clinical Trials Registry of India). Vellore Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram said the success of the trial would be forwarded to both the State and central governments for further action.

At the care centre in Vellore, only 20 patients were chosen even as 50 were approved based on study protocols. Patients in both Vellore and Tirupattur centres were treated with kabasura kudineer, amukara mathirai, thalisathi vadakam, Brahmanada Bairavam pills and Aduthoda manapagu.

The 20 patients in Vellore included 13 men and 7 women with 14 symptomatic, 4 asymptomatic and 2 ILI (influenza-like illness) cases. All were tested for RT-PCR, blood investigations for kidney and liver functions and related CBC, CRP, LDH, Ferritin, Prothrombin Time before and after the treatment. Post-treatment, 16 tested negative on day 7 and oxygen levels of all the patients were maintained at the threshold level (95). Their liver and kidney functions did not have much difference before and after treatment, tests revealed.
