Party president MK Stalin also sought an inquiry headed by a Supreme Court judge to ensure justice to the victim’s family. The rally, to be led by women’s wing secretary K Kanimozhi, was being organised to urge Governor Banwarilal Purohit to reflect the sentiments to Centre, Stalin said in a statement. Appealing to the women cadre to turn up in large numbers with torches to ignite hope among the people fighting for justice across the country, Stalin said, “Union Minister Amit Shah who holds Home portfolio should answer (for the incident).”
The safety of minorities, Dalits, women and scheduled tribes was in question in UP, Stalin alleged, adding that the Centre has the responsibility to ensure their safety and should thus instruct the UP government to deliver justice. Reiterating that the UP government should tender apology to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the way he was treated by the State police, Stalin said State government should mend its ways. Cases against Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi should be withdrawn, and the insult meted out to the former should be inquired by the Privileges Committee of the Parliament, he added.
Recalling the sequence in Hathras case, he said the Gandhis were allowed to meet the family only after the incident created ripples across the country. Alleging that Priyanka was roughed up by police, Stalin said the democratic norms were thrown to the wind, and asked UP CM Yogi Adityanath to take responsibility for the incident.
